I do hair (and love it) – been at it for 12 years now. I love all lengths and hairstyles, but medium length layered haircuts? They just give this super cool girl vibe, as well as major refresh energy. Not exactly short but not super long either – practical, but still super cute and you can put your hair up, or style it a number of different ways.
Then you add layers into this beautiful mix – layers make your hair move, add dimension, frame your face, prevent your hair from looking flat, and just look cute honestly. They can also make your hair appear lighter or more voluminous, depending on your needs. Your hair can be straight or curly, doesn’t matter – layers work on all textures. Below you’ll find some of my favorite ways to do mid length hair with layers.
1. Bronde Bombshell with Face-Framing Magic

So this color is bronde. That means not blonde and not brown, it’s in the middle. The highlights go all over your head with foils. Layers around your face make it look really nice. It’s so pretty when you straighten it! Your face looks better with those front pieces. They’re not too much though.
2. Caramel Dream Balayage

People ask me for this one all the time at work. Caramel color is so good! When I add lots of layers by your face it gets big and pretty. The cut makes it look full. It’s like you didn’t even try but you look amazing. Cool girls wear their hair like this.
3. Chestnut Waves with Subtle Layers

Less is more sometimes. This one is brown like chestnuts. The layers are small, you can’t see them much. Natural waves make it beachy. You keep most of your hair long. It’s chill and easy. Nobody will think you spent hours on it!
4. Jet Black Feathered Perfection

Black hair is so pretty. When you feather the layers around your face it gets soft. But it still looks fancy! The feathering makes it fluffy in a good way. You can touch it and it feels nice. Everything looks on purpose.
5. Shaggy Chocolate Layers with Bangs

Do you like rock and roll vibes? This cut is for you. Lots of heavy layers make it messy looking. Bangs finish the whole thing. It’s like bed head but cooler! Dark brown makes it extra. Kind of moody, you know?
6. Dimensional Blonde Feathered Layers

Okay so balayage plus feathered layers equals perfect. I’m not kidding! So much movement happens with this blonde. The layers are light and airy, not heavy. You get big hair without weight pulling it down. Feathering is soft and romantic. But you can still wear it every day, it’s not too fancy.
7. Honey Blonde Curly Layers

Curly hair needs layers bad. If you don’t layer it you get a triangle head. Nobody wants that! These tight curls get so bouncy with the right cut. Each curl does what it wants. They all look good together though. Honey blonde on top of that? Perfect.
8. Blonde Highlights with Bouncy Layers

Blonde highlights are classic. They never look bad or old. Long layers with them make everything bounce. When you style it there’s so much movement! Curl it or don’t, whatever. I like when a cut works lots of ways.
9. Auburn Sleek Flip

Auburn is in right now. Copper colors too! The layers flip out at the ends. It’s retro but also modern somehow. Style it smooth and flat. You look fancy! The copper shines when light hits it. So pretty.
10. Black Bob with Side-Swept Bangs

This bob is chic. That’s the word for it. It’s black and medium length. Layers make texture but not choppy texture. Side bangs make your face softer. Good for work. Still has personality though!
11. Choppy Chestnut Lob with Curtain Bangs

I love this cut so much. It’s shaggy and choppy. The lob length looks good on everyone, like seriously everyone. Curtain bangs are still popular. All those choppy bits give you texture. Perfect for lazy people like me! It looks like you don’t care but you look great.
12. Copper Red Long Layers with Side Bangs

People don’t pick copper red enough. It’s such a good color! Long layers with side bangs frame everything. Your face looks so pretty. The color is bold. Not too crazy though, you can wear it anywhere.
13. Espresso Brown Feathered Bounce

Espresso brown is that really dark brown. Add feathered layers and boom, bouncy! The way I feather it makes it move a lot. Style it with volume and it looks expensive. Dark brown doesn’t need much work to look good. That’s a bonus.
14. Rose Gold Peachy Pink Perfection

Want fun color but not rainbow hair? Try this. Rose gold with peach pink is so good. Layers are subtle so it’s not heavy. Wear it straight and the color shows up nice. It’s girly but not loud. Fun but not crazy.
15. Strawberry Blonde Soft Lob

Everyone looks good with strawberry blonde. I mean it! This length is medium to long. Soft layers make it easy and pretty. Lobs are great because you can do anything with them. Straight, wavy, up, down. Whatever you feel like!
16. Sleek Jet Black Face-Framers

Models wear their hair like this. Jet black with layers by your face. Super sleek and airy when you style it. Dimension without being puffy. Straighten it and it looks so cool. Simple is good sometimes.
17. Golden Blonde Curly Bob

Curly girls need layers everywhere. If you have a bob this is extra important! Golden blonde is such a nice color. All that curly texture looks full. The layers help each curl look defined. No weird bulky ends.
18. Blunt Jet Black Minimalist Cut

Not everyone wants lots of layers. This cut proves it! Black hair cut medium with blunt ends. Just a few small layers. It’s sleek and modern looking. Clean girl vibes. Simple makes a statement too!
19. Espresso Feathered Flip

Got thick hair? This works great. Dark espresso brown with feathered layers. The ends flip out which is flirty and fun. Feathering takes out some heaviness. It’s classic. Still has its own thing going on though, which matters to me.
20. Reddish Brown Glossy Waves

This brown has red in it. Looks so shiny! Small layers with soft waves are elegant. You know what? You don’t always need tons of layers. Sometimes healthy shiny hair with a little movement is all you need. This is one of those times.
21. Champagne Blonde Face-Framers

Champagne blonde is so in right now. Face layers with this color are super nice on people. Makes your whole face brighter! Wear it straight. The layers move just enough. Not too flat.
22. Burgundy Plum Dimensional Waves

Burgundy plum is a fall color but whatever, wear it anytime. The layers are soft, the texture is wavy. So much dimension with a rich color like this! It’s bold. You can still wear it every day though.
23. Ash Blonde Chunky Highlights

This is early 2000s style but in a good way. Ash blonde with chunky highlights. Feathered layers keep it modern, not old looking. The contrast makes so much dimension! Throwback that works.
24. Chocolate Wavy Bob

Can’t go wrong with this. Chocolate brown bob with layers. Wavy texture is effortless and beachy. The layers move but aren’t choppy. Timeless is the word.
25. Espresso Long Layers with Curtain Bangs

So versatile! Espresso brown, long layers, curtain bangs. The bangs frame your face perfect. Layers give you movement everywhere. Any hair texture works with this. Everyone can wear it.
26. Golden Honey Soft Layers

Subtle and pretty. Golden honey blonde with highlights. Medium to long with soft layers. Not choppy at all! Gentle looking. Feminine. You get dimension but nothing dramatic.
27. Platinum Shadow Root Sleek

One of the coolest cuts! Platinum blonde with a shadow root. Just a few layers. The shadow root means less salon time than full platinum. Style it sleek. Minimal layers make it modern and edgy.
28. Ash Brown Textured Chop

Ash brown with choppy layers. Side part that’s textured. You look cool without trying! Choppy parts add personality. Ash tone is pretty without being warm colored. Indie girl energy!
29. Bronde Ombre Textured Layers

Ombre with choppy layers, but make it bronde. Fun twist on regular ombre! Choppy texture keeps it from looking too perfect. Bronde looks good on most people. Ombre is easier to take care of than all-over color.
30. Dark Brown Wavy Bob with Light Layers

Sometimes you just want classic. Dark brown bob with waves. Light layers give movement. Keeps it thick though! Works for any face. Any hair type. Easy to style. Done.
31. Caramel Face-Framing Layers

Pretty combination! Dark brown hair with caramel highlights. Face-framing layers draw eyes to your features. Highlights add warmth and dimension. Flattering on basically everyone who sits in my chair.
32. Sleek Jet Black Modern Layers

Modern and chic! Jet black, medium to long, layers. Wear it sleek and shiny. Layers move when you turn your head. Looks polished though. Sometimes shiny healthy hair is enough!
33. Chunky Highlights Voluminous Layers

90s and 2000s are back. Brown with chunky highlights! Long layers that are super voluminous. The highlights make major dimension. Layers create movement and bigness. Statement look but I’m into it.
34. Chocolate Feathered Softness

Just really pretty and wearable. Chocolate brown. Long feathered layers. Soft texture. The feathering moves but isn’t choppy or edgy. Works for any occasion! Versatile and classic.
35. Bronde Sleek Straight Layers

Looks expensive! Bronde with face-framing highlights. Medium to long layers. Wear it sleek and straight. The highlights brighten up everything. Long layers add movement. Polished but not boring.
36. Deep Brown Choppy Wavy Bob

Add edge to a classic! Deep brown bob. Choppy layers with wavy texture. The choppy gives you that undone lived-in look. Waves add softness though. Edgy meets feminine. Balanced.
37. Sandy Blonde Elegant Balayage Bob

Super cute sandy blonde balayage on a medium bob. Choppy layers too. The balayage makes dimension. Choppy layers make texture. Bob length feels fresh. Modern! Elegant but also cool and easy looking.
38. Honey Blonde Spiral Curls

Spiral curls gain even more definition in this layered cut. Honey blonde shade makes your face look bright and sunny – a stunning voluminous look.
