Short hair has never been trendy; it’s a lifestyle. Whether you choose to grow out your hair as a natural look, dye it bright colors, go for a classic look, or anything else that reflects your personality, there are endless options when it comes to short hair.
Many people believe that short hair limits your choices but nothing could be further from the truth – there are far more varieties than you would ever imagine! Below, I listed my personal favorites that I have either worked with in the past, or that I am currently obsessed with. Let’s get started!
1. The Bouncy Volume High Top
This reminds me of the 1990s, and by that I mean the style is good and not cheesy. The curls on top are so full and bouncy, and the tapered sides create a very clean line. The volume on top creates height without being overwhelming. If you have natural texture, this is a great option to show it off. Plus, it is surprisingly easy to maintain in the morning.
2. Sleek Boss Lady Bob
This style is simply referred to as the “Boss Lady” bob. It reaches the chin length and has a smooth finish with the hair swept to one side, giving it an elegant and professional appearance. Honestly, this style suits everyone regardless of face shape. You can wear this to work, or out with friends. Once you find the right cut, it is relatively low maintenance.
3. Textured Pixie Cut Short
A textured pixie is more than just a basic pixie cut. It features texture throughout the entire cut. Adding volume on top gives the cut a lot of life. The sides and back of the cut are tapered creating a sharp line. This style frames your face but does not create a harsh look. Overall, I enjoy this style so much.
4. Natural Coily Short Hair
For those who want a natural look while keeping their hair short, the natural coily short hair is a great option. The coily afro remains on top and is left to flow freely. The sides and back are tapered creating a neat look that complements the afro on top. It is the best of both worlds – natural and polished. I think many people will agree with me on this point.
5. Platinum Mohawk Pixie Cut
We are getting bold here! A platinum mohawk pixie cut is a bold move. Add the mohawk shape to a pixie cut with tapered sides, and you are rocking the rockstar look! While the platinum requires a lot of upkeep to keep it looking its best, the end result is well worth it when you look as cool as this.
6. Silver Pixie Cut with Side Part
Silver and gray are colors that I am absolutely loving right now! They look fabulous on a pixie cut. The side part creates a soft, feminine look, while the undercut and tapered sides give the cut an edgy feel. If you are experiencing gray hairs naturally, this is a great option. Or, if you just want to switch up your hairstyle from black or brown hair.
7. Wispy Bangs Pixie Cut
Wispy bangs on a pixie cut create such a great look. The wispy bangs soften the overall look of the pixie cut and provide a cool-girl vibe without trying too hard. The texture of the hair provides a relaxed look and prevents the cut from appearing stiff. If you want a short haircut that also appears flirty, this is the perfect option for you.
8. Vintage Finger Wave Pixie Cut
Vintage finger wave styling reminiscent of the 1920s. However, the tapered pixie cut brings a modern twist to this vintage style. This style is great for formal occasions. Or, if you are a fan of the classic look, you can wear it every day. This style takes fantastic photographs as well.
9. Red Highlights Pixie Cut
Adding copper or red to a black mane completely changes the look of the hair. The side part accentuates all of the colors. The contrast is beautiful. I always say that highlights look better on a short cut because they are able to be seen more clearly than on a long cut.

An angled bob is a classic style, correct? It is longer in front and shorter in the back, providing a very attractive shape to the face. When it is styled smooth and polished, it has a sophisticated look to it. An angled bob works well on everyone. If you need to go to work, it works. If you are planning to go out at night, it works.
11. Deep Side Part Pixie Cut
A deep side part may seem simple but it does so much. It creates an asymmetry that draws the viewer’s eye to the cut. Tapered sides keep the cut clean looking. I advise clients who are concerned that a short cut may appear too masculine to attempt this look. The deep part adds a touch of femininity.
12. Side-Swept Short Sleek Pixie Cut
All about smooth and swept to one side, this style has a polished look to it. Very put-together. The undercut and taper on the sides and back are neat. All the attention is drawn to the sweep in the front. Elegant but not trying too hard. I believe this is the best type of style.
13. Ultra-Short Buzz Pixie Cut
For those that prefer to keep things simple and minimal! The ultra-short cut with buzzed sides are extremely low maintenance. You are basically just working with your natural head shape. When someone is able to pull off this look? Absolutely stunning. Since there is no place to hide, you have to have confidence.
14. Wavy Asymmetrical Pixie Cut
The asymmetry of this cut creates a unique look. One side of the hair is longer than the other. The waves add movement and help soften the cut. The deep part of the cut helps draw attention to the asymmetrical shape. This style has a lot of personality. Good for those that like to experiment with new styles.
15. High Top Fade with Coils
The high top is back! I couldn’t be happier about it. This high top fades allows you to keep your coily texture on top natural. The tapered fade on the sides is clean and crisp. This is a powerful look that celebrates your natural hair while being structured and looking deliberate, not sloppy.
16. Coily Mohawk Style
Your natural coily texture flows down the middle of your head. The tapered fade on both sides creates a mohawk shaped look. Bold but still looks natural. Your center coils can be styled however you wish. You can make them larger or smaller based on your mood that day.
17. TWA (Teeney Weenie Afro) with Taper Fade
TWA stands for Teeny Weeny Afro. This is a perfect option for natural hair girls who are looking to start fresh. Or, you can use it to simplify your hair. The tapered fade gives the hair some definition. Otherwise, it is a very low maintenance option. It grows out nicely as well, if you decide you want longer hair later on.
18. Curly Volume Pixie Cut
You can let your natural curls shine! And the best part is that it is short and manageable. Adding volume to the top of the cut creates a dimensional and lively look. The tapered sides prevent the hair from becoming too voluminous. Playful and fun. Not childlike, but has a positive energy to it.
19. Platinum Blonde Spiky Pixie Cut
Want attention? This is how you get it! Platinum blonde hair is bold enough on its own, but adding spiky texture with a tapered fade takes it to a whole new level. You will definitely be noticed with this look. The spikes add height and attitude to the style. The platinum color makes everything stand out way more than any other color.
20. Silver Side-Swept Undercut Pixie Cut
This silver pixie cut with side-sweep and undercut is subtly dramatic. Not overly dramatic, but it is certainly noticeable. The undercut adds an edgy element to the style. Silver hair is both sophisticated and modern at the same time. It is a perfect combination of soft and sharp, I think.
