Fine hair does NOT equal boring hair. I get so many clients coming into my chair and believing they’re limited by their fine hair. Going short? That’s literally the best thing you could do for your hair. Your hair will instantly get a volume boost and then you’ll have options you’ve never imagined would be possible.
You can go in an endless number of directions when going short with fine hair. A textured pixie or stacked bob are two of my favorites. In fact, I’ve been cutting hair for about 8 years now and these are two of the most popular hairstyles in my chair lately (they’re also super popular on my Instagram). When you go short with fine hair, you are basically putting all of your limited density into a smaller space; therefore, it makes every little bit of hair look WAY thicker than it would otherwise – which is exactly what you want to happen.
1. Rich Burgundy Layered Pixie

The layered texture in this pixie is something fine hair LOVES. And, the deep burgundy tone makes your hair look thicker, it’s almost magical. And, textured layers prevent the hair from laying flat – which is the biggest problem with thin hair.
2. Golden Balayage Asymmetrical Bob

All of my fine-haired clients love asymmetrical bobs. The angle creates the illusion of extra dimension naturally. Golden balayage breaks up flatness and the textured ends keep it balanced. Plus, you can tuck the short side behind your ear for a completely different look.
3. Ash Blonde Stacked Pixie Bob

Why choose between a pixie and a bob? Get both with this hairstyle! The back is stacked so you’ll get tons of volume where your fine hair normally lays flat. The rounded shape will flatter most facial shapes. And, the ash blonde tone with light brown lowlights will add depth without requiring a ton of upkeep.
4. Platinum Angled Chin Bob

I love angled bobs at the chin – they’re seriously underutilized for thin hair. They create the illusion of thickness. And, the platinum blonde with shadow roots means less frequent touch-ups. If you have naturally straight fine hair – this haircut is a dream come true!
5. Platinum Stacked Wedge Pixie

Bold is the first word that comes to mind when describing this pixie. But, trust me, it’s SO GREAT for fine hair. The major volume at the crown from the stacked wedge is everything. And, the short nape keeps everything lifted off your neck. The platinum tone will keep it modern and you’ll barely need to style this haircut.
6. Ash Blonde Bob with Bangs

Many people believe bangs are terrible for fine hair – but I’m here to tell you that they’re actually great. The ash blonde bob frames your face beautifully and the shadow roots add dimension. Just be sure your bangs aren’t too thick so they don’t weigh down the rest of your hair.
7. Undercut Pixie with Volume

I highly recommend this to any client who wants to go for an edgy look. The undercut removes weight from the sides and allows for a longer top that can stand up and provide real volume. The ash blonde tone keeps it soft while the cut is dramatic. You’ll need some product to get the desired effect.
8. Caramel Balayage Choppy Bob

Adding choppy layers to your fine hair creates movement and texture – something that typically lays flat. Adding caramel and honey balayage creates depth and makes your hair look FULLER. Plus, how casual this haircut looks is PERFECT – it’s not too “done-up” which works BETTER for thin hair.
9. Champagne Bob with Side Bangs

So very feminine and flattering. The rounded bob with side-swept bangs is GORGEOUS. The champagne blonde with shadow roots provides tons of dimension. And, since this haircut requires minimal styling, it’s perfect for busy days! Plus, the side bangs help if you have a larger forehead – and they blend into the bob perfectly.
10. Asymmetrical Champagne Pixie

Longer pieces on top and tapered sides. I am OBSESSED WITH THIS PIXIE STYLE! It’s perfect for fine hair because volume is concentrated on top where you need it. The sides remain tight. The champagne blonde tone is very pretty – not harsh like platinum.
11. Honey Blonde Angled Stacked Bob

If you have fine hair, this is THE ULTIMATE BOB. The stacking in back creates height. The angle creates movement. Texture prevents flatness. And, the honey and golden blonde tone creates dimension that your flat fine hair needs. Classic, yet modern.
12. Wavy Honey Balayage Bob

Does your hair wave/curl? Many fine hairs can – with the right products. This textured bob is beautiful. The honey and caramel tones give it a NATURAL SUN-KISSED LOOK. Waves add body. Simply use a texturizing spray and curl some of the ends.
13. Blunt Honey Blonde Bob

Blunt cuts can work for fine hair IF DONE RIGHT. This chin-length bob creates the illusion of fullness because all of the hair is the same length. Best results occur when your hair is naturally straight. Golden tones add warmth.
14. Icy Platinum Layered Pixie

SO COOL. The icy platinum tone is bold. The layered top and undercut sides remove bulk from the sides — which is perfect for THIN HAIR. All of the volume is focused on top — where it matters most. You’ll need PURPLE SHAMPOO for this look.
15. Chocolate Brown Balayage Bob with Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs are EVERYWHERE right now. And, they’re perfect for fine hair. The jaw-length bob with chocolate brown and honey balayage has TONS OF DIMENSION. Layering creates a LIGHT and FLUFFY look. The curtain bangs frame your face — without adding too much bulk to the rest of your hair.
16. Mushroom Brown Rounded Bob

What a NICE COLOR. With ash blonde balayage it creates AMAZING DEPTH. The rounded shape is FLATTERING. Since this haircut requires no major styling — it’s perfect for fine hair.
17. Mushroom Brown Layered Pixie

A mushroom brown base with lighter highlights is very versatile. The layered texture creates MOVEMENT AND TEXTURE — both things fine hair NEEDS. And, the short enough length is easy to manage — but the long top layer offers LOTS OF OPTIONS for styling.
18. Platinum Rounded Bob with Side Bangs

Another rounded bob — but this time with platinum ash blonde with shadow roots. Super flattering shape. The side bangs ADD INTEREST — but aren’t TOO DRAMATIC. Shadow roots = less frequent salon visits, yay!
19. Platinum Blunt Chin Bob

The ULTIMATE MINIMALIST BOB. A blunt cut at chin-length creates a CLEAN LINE. MAKES YOUR FINE HAIR LOOK THICKER. Platinum blonde is STRIKING. Best results occur when you have straight hair and want a chic but simple cut.
20. Textured Angled Stacked Bob

I recommend this cut relly often.. The stacking in back creates HEIGHT. The angle creates MOVEMENT. Texture prevents flatness. Platinum will definitely make it modern — and this cut will work with ANY COLOR.
21. Spiky Platinum Pixie

Want personality? This spiky cut is it. The textured pieces can be styled UP OR MESSY. This cut is PERFECTION for thin hair — you create volume through styling rather than relying on hair density. The platinum makes the spikes POP.
22. Silver Blonde Blunt Bob with Bangs

Silver blonde is SO PRETTY. This blunt bob with bangs is sophisticated. The blunt cut makes your fine hair look fuller. The bangs add YOUTHFULNESS. And, the shadow roots add dimension — and fewer salon visits!
23. Silver Stacked Wedge Pixie

Perfect for anyone with fine hair who wants really short hair. The stacked wedge creates major volume in back. The short back keeps everything lifted off your neck. Silver blonde is trendy. Once you get past the regular trims — it’s low-maintenance.
