You have fine wavy hair and you’re not sure what to do with it. I get it, I hear this all the time in the salon. The good news is that this hair type is way more versatile than most people think, it just needs the right cut to really shine.
After 12 years behind the chair in the salon, I can tell you that a good haircut can completely transform fine wavy hair. It goes from looking limp and in-between to full of life and movement, sometimes just by changing the length or adding a few layers. I rounded up some of my fave cuts and looks that I think work really well for fine wavy hair, so hopefully something here clicks!
Honey Blonde Curtain Bang Lob

This color is so warm and pretty, it kind of makes me happy every time I see it. The cut is a long lob with layers and soft curtain bangs that blend right into the hair. Layers like this are really great for fine hair because they add so much movement. I always tell my clients that the right layers can make thin hair look twice as full. This one is a good example of that.
Silver Ash Ombre with Blunt Bangs

Okay this color is so cool. It goes from almost black at the roots all the way down to a silvery ash tone at the ends. The bangs are blunt and strong which I really love on this cut. For fine hair, having that bold fringe up front adds weight where you need it most. Those retro waves finish the whole thing off in the best way.
Amber Copper Pixie Bob with Side Bangs

This short pixie bob has such a romantic vintage quality to it that I find really special. Warm amber copper all over with soft side-swept bangs and rounded waves throughout. Side bangs like these are great for fine hair because they add coverage across the forehead without looking sparse or flat. The waves are set and defined which is easy to recreate with a small iron at home. It’s a really pretty style that feels a little old Hollywood.
Champagne Blonde Beach Waves

This is the vacation hair look and I will never stop loving it. Warm champagne fading into buttery blonde ends on a long layered style with full bouncy beach waves. The layers are soft and seamless so the waves hold all day without going flat. Fine hair can totally wear this length with the right cut underneath. It just looks like you’ve been somewhere sunny and I think that’s the dream.
Long Espresso Brunette Waves

A lot of people with fine hair think they can’t wear it long but this look proves that wrong. It’s a really rich cool espresso brown with long layers and a clean center part. The waves are polished and defined and they fall so nicely past the collarbone. Deep color like this makes fine hair look way thicker than it actually is. I am obsessed with how glossy this looks.
Copper Rust A-Line Bob

The A-line shape on this bob is doing so much for fine hair. Shorter in the back and angling longer toward the front, it distributes weight in the most flattering way. Copper rust fading into strawberry gold gives it this gorgeous warm glow. The tousled textured waves through the body of the cut add even more thickness visually. It looks deceptively simple but it is a really thoughtful cut.
Pearl Platinum Wavy Lob

A slightly warmer platinum than the ice white one and I think it’s just as stunning. Pearl blonde with a soft warm tone, styled into loose flowing waves at collarbone length. The warmth in this platinum makes it more wearable for a wider range of skin tones. Fine hair blends together so nicely in this kind of all-over color. It looks full and luminous from every angle.
Auburn Gold Layered Shag

This might be the most movement I have ever seen in one haircut. Warm auburn with golden highlights through a medium layered shag and every single layer is doing something. The tousled texture is incredible and it looks best when you just let it do its thing. Fine wavy hair is genuinely perfect for this style because the waves fill out all those layers beautifully. It hits at the collarbone and looks effortlessly full all day.
Sandy Blonde Choppy Bob

This bob is giving all the cool girl energy. It’s a choppy shoulder length cut with a dark root melting into sandy blonde and it looks so effortless. The texture is built right into the cut which is perfect for wavy hair. Day two with this style is honestly even better than day one. Fine hair looks so much thicker with this kind of piecy, undone finish.
Voluminous Brunette Lob with Deep Part

This lob is all about volume and I love it for that reason. The deep side part and big bouncy layers create this really full, lush look that fine hair can totally pull off. Cool brunette with a few warm highlights gives the waves so much dimension. It hits just past the collarbone which is kind of the sweet spot for this style. The waves stay springy all day with a cut like this.
Sandy Blonde Tousled Lob with Curtain Bangs

Those curtain bangs are doing so much here and they look amazing. They’re wispy and soft and they frame the face without being too heavy. The rest of the cut is a choppy sandy blonde lob with beachy tousled waves throughout. Choppy ends like these create the illusion of thickness which fine hair always needs. The dark root makes upkeep really easy too which is always a plus.
Espresso Lob with Side-Swept Bangs

This is such a classic and pretty look. It’s a deep espresso lob with side-swept wispy bangs and smooth, retro-style waves. The waves are more polished than beachy which gives it a really put together feel. That wave structure actually adds body to fine hair in a way that loose waves don’t always do. I think this one is timeless and would look good on almost anyone.
Near-Black Wavy Lob

Simple, clean, and really confident looking. It’s a near-black lob with soft defined waves and a center part and nothing else going on, which I kind of love. The length keeps enough weight at the ends so the waves hold their shape all day. Dark uniform color like this makes fine hair look denser overall. No bangs, no drama, just a really solid flattering haircut.
Brunette Wavy Mullet Shag

I know, I know, it’s a mullet. But please keep reading because this one is genuinely so cool. Short and textured on top with longer wavy pieces in the back, it’s basically made for wavy hair. The texture does all the work for you which makes styling super easy. Deep brunette keeps it looking intentional and edgy in the best way.
Brunette Chin-Length Bob with Big Waves

This chin-length bob with big bouncy waves is one of my favorites in this whole roundup. The waves are springy and full which is exactly what fine hair can look like at this length. Short enough to lift the waves but not so short that you lose the movement. That deep brunette makes the whole thing look really rich and full. It’s a bold cut that pays off every time.
Dark Root Platinum Ombre Lob

Dark roots melting into pearl platinum and I am completely obsessed. The contrast between those deep roots and the almost-white ends makes every single wave look defined and beautiful. It’s a medium length lob hitting right at the collarbone with a soft gentle wave pattern. Fine hair actually holds platinum color really well which a lot of people don’t know. This look is stunning in person, I promise.
Copper to Golden Blonde Wavy Lob

This color combination might be my personal favorite. Warm copper at the roots fading down into golden blonde ends, on a classic medium lob with beachy waves. Every wave in this color looks like it has its own glow, which sounds dramatic but it’s true. The layering lets those waves move freely without any heaviness. It adds so much visual texture to fine hair without any extra effort.
Cool Brunette Lob with Curtain Bangs

Curtain bangs and a wavy lob is honestly a formula I will never get tired of. The cool brunette base here has just enough highlight to give the waves real dimension without going full balayage. Those curtain bangs are long enough to blend right into the layers which looks so seamless and pretty. For fine wavy hair, this cut adds volume where it matters most. It photographs really beautifully too which never hurts.
Honey Blonde Fringe Lob

I love a blunt fringe and this one is really well done. It’s straight and clean without being harsh, sitting just above the brows over soft honey blonde waves. The dark root keeps it from looking too high maintenance which I appreciate. For fine hair, a blunt fringe adds visual density right at the front of the head where things can look thin. The polished waves underneath give it a really chic editorial finish.
Sandy Golden Balayage Long Waves

This one is for anyone who thinks fine hair can’t be long. Soft seamless layers from dark roots down to sandy golden ends, styled into effortless beach waves. The waves fall past the collarbone and look full and alive the whole way down. That sun-kissed color progression adds so much movement visually. It has this just-got-back-from-vacation energy that I will always be a fan of.
Ice White Platinum Wavy Lob

This is dramatic and I love it. Head-to-toe ice white with zero roots, styled into polished defined waves at collarbone length. Fine hair actually wears platinum really well because the strands blend together so seamlessly. The wave pattern gives it all the body it needs to look full and gorgeous. There is no version of this look that doesn’t turn heads.
Ash Brunette Lob with Wispy Fringe

This one is understated and really pretty in a quiet way. Cool ash brunette with the softest wispy fringe bangs and gentle waves throughout. The subtle highlights in the ash base give the waves dimension without going too far with color. Wispy bangs like these are perfect for fine hair because they add a little coverage without any weight. It’s effortless in the very best way.
Near-Black Curly Shag with Fringe

This deep espresso curly shag has so much personality. Wispy curtain fringe in the front and wild textured layers throughout the rest of the cut, it’s giving maximum volume and energy. For fine hair that leans curly, a shag cut is honestly the best thing you can do. The more your waves and curls do their natural thing, the better this cut looks. I really love this one.
Dark Caramel Balayage Wavy Shag with Bangs

This shag is so good. Full blunt bangs hitting above the brows, dark espresso roots fading into warm caramel, and a medium length shag with tons of texture throughout. The layers add so much movement that fine wavy hair looks completely full and alive. That contrast between the dark root, warm tones, and blunt fringe makes it really striking. It’s bold but still totally wearable every day.
Burnt Copper Wavy Pixie Crop

Going short is one of the best things you can do for fine wavy hair and this look is the reason why. Burnt copper auburn all over with a voluminous tousled texture on top that just pops. When there’s no length dragging the waves down, they lift and bounce so beautifully. This takes maybe ten minutes to style in the morning. It looks so cool every single time.
Honey Caramel Balayage Springy Lob

These waves are almost curl-like in how springy and defined they are, which gives this shoulder-length lob incredible body. Soft brown at the roots transitioning into warm honey-caramel ends in a really seamless natural-looking way. Fine hair looks so full and bouncy with waves styled like this. It’s polished enough for work but relaxed enough for the weekend. Really one of my favorites in this whole list.
Dark Root Golden Lob with Curtain Bangs

French-girl vibes are fully activated here. Dark roots into golden blonde balayage on a lob with wispy curtain bangs and tousled undone waves. The bangs look like they just happened naturally which is exactly the vibe I love. This is such a good length for fine wavy hair, long enough to show off the wave pattern but short enough to look full. I recommend this combo constantly in the salon.
