Mid length hairstyles is having a moment! And mid length curly hairstyles specifically are such a vibe, in my opinion. I love making curls bouncier and more defined, and these hairstyles are perfect for that. I’ve been doing hair for 12 years now and I swear every other curly client comes in wanting to chop their long curls to this length to make their curls more defined/less flat/more youthful – you name it. Which totally makes sense because it’s basically the perfect spot – not too short where you can’t throw it up, but not so long that wash day turns into an all-day event.
While curly hair looks good at any length, there’s something about mid length that just works. It keeps your curls bouncy and full of life without the weight pulling them down. Ahead, I’m sharing some of my favorite mid length curly looks that I’ve either done myself or seen around the salon – from natural styles to full-on color transformations that’ll make you want to book an appointment ASAP.
1. Golden Balayage Bombshell
When you see this from the back it looks so pretty. Blonde pieces go through the curls. Light hits it and makes it shine a lot. You don’t have to worry about roots showing too much with balayage.
2. Platinum Bouncy Curls with Shadow Root
This color is really light and cool. The roots are darker on purpose. Keeps you from going to the salon all the time! Your curls look amazing with platinum blonde. Purple shampoo is gonna be your best friend tho.
3. Chocolate Brown with Subtle Dimension
You don’t always need crazy color. Just a few light pieces in dark brown hair looks natural. Super easy to take care of. The highlights show up when sun hits your curls and it’s really nice.
4. Deep Burgundy Fiery Curls
This red color is so bold! Each curl shows different shades of red and purple. It looks insane in a good way. Red color fades super fast so be ready for that.
5. Golden Curly Bob Goals
Curly bobs are really popular right now. Add some golden blonde and it’s perfect. Makes your curls bounce more cause they’re shorter. I love doing this cut on people.
6. Ombre Waves in Balayage
Brown on top and blonde on the bottom is classic. The color fades from dark to light. Mid length shows off the whole color change. Curls blend everything together naturally which is cool.
7. Caramel Dream Highlights
I love caramel in dark brown hair so much. Warm tones look expensive. Not too different from your natural color. Works on everyone no matter your skin tone!
8. Ash Blonde Volume Perfection
Ash blonde is more cool than warm. Doesn’t get orange or brassy. Balayage makes it look natural in curls. You gotta tone it sometimes but totally worth it.
9. Copper and Gold Fusion
Auburn and gold together is fire. All these warm colors mixed up look so good. Everyone stares at this color! If you have warm skin this will look amazing on you.
10. Defined Black Curls
Sometimes no color is the best. Your black curls are already beautiful. Mid length makes them easy to style. Natural texture looks so good at this length.
11. Chestnut Soft Curls with Curtain Bangs
Chestnut brown with caramel highlights is trending. Curtain bangs frame your face nice. They look so cute! You need a good stylist for curly bangs tho cause they can go wrong.
12. Honey Blonde Ombre Lob
Honey blonde ombre looks like you were at the beach. Super warm and pretty color. Don’t have to get it touched up as much as regular highlights. Your hair will shine so much in the sun!
13. Dark to Blonde Balayage Stacked Lob
This is what everyone asks me for. Dark brown with blonde pieces. Light and dark together looks good. The blonde pops out of the curls. It’s dramatic but natural at the same time somehow.
14. Copper Auburn Richness
This red is really vibrant and bright. You gotta be brave to do this color! Copper reflects light in the prettiest way. Makes you stand out for sure.
15. Brown and Blonde Classic Cut
Never goes out of style. Brown with blonde balayage is timeless. Blonde around your face brightens everything up. Works really well with curls cause of how they fall.
16. Golden Balayage Mid Length
Golden blonde at mid length is my favorite. Warm tones look good on most people. Your curls stay bouncy and not too hard to manage. This length is just the best honestly.
17. Debulked Brown Lob
Just a few highlights in brown hair is nice. Makes your color better without being obvious. Enhances what you already have. Sometimes you don’t need a lot of color!
18. Blonde Ombre Highlighted Curls
This uses two color techniques together. Balayage all through your hair plus ombre at the ends. Takes more work to keep up. Looks incredible tho.
19. Chocolate with Chestnut Highlights and Bangs
Dark chocolate with lighter brown highlights is classy. Not too dark and heavy looking. Curtain bangs add so much movement! Everything comes together at mid length.
20. Honey Balayage Crown Volume
Honey in dark brown makes you glow. Adds brightness without going super light. You stay brunette but lighter. Really pretty color for warming up your look.
21. Rose Gold Soft Curls
Rose gold is so fun and different! The pink and gold tones are really feminine. Shadow roots help it grow out better. People will definitely notice this color on your curls.
22. Honey Blonde Flowy Cut
Medium brown base with honey blonde is easy to maintain. Honey pieces make everything brighter. Brown keeps it grounded so it’s not too light. Balayage works perfect with curly hair movement.
