Okay, I have to talk about short hair. Not just a little, like a lot. Because I feel like it does not get enough credit and that really bothers me as someone who has spent over a decade watching it completely transform people.
Women over 50 are out here getting the best haircuts of their lives and I want more people to know about it. A great short cut can do so much, it lifts the face, it adds personality, it is easier to style in the morning. I rounded up some of my best looks that I genuinely love and every single one of them is proof that going short is almost always a good idea.
Warm Copper Pixie Bob with Side-Swept Fringe

This color is so warm and pretty, like a cup of tea kind of color. I love it. The cut is a longer pixie bob, so it is not super short but it is also not really a bob, it is right in the middle in the best way. That side fringe is sweeping across the face really nicely and it just works. Fine hair would look really good in this style because the length adds some weight and body.
Icy Platinum Textured Pixie with Long Side Bang

Okay the color here is stunning, like almost white but not quite. It is very cool-toned and icy and I am obsessed. The long piece that sweeps across the forehead makes it feel a little softer and less severe. All those choppy layers on top are giving so much volume and I think that is what makes this cut work so well for fine hair. Really really good look.
Honey Golden Curly Bob

Those curls. I mean, come on. The color is this beautiful warm honey blonde and it just makes the curls look even bouncier somehow. It is a short bob shape but the curls fill it out so nicely and give it a lot of volume. If your hair is naturally curly, this kind of cut is going to work really hard for you. You barely have to do anything and it looks this good.
Creamy Blonde Polished Wavy Bob

This one looks expensive and I mean that as a compliment. The waves are soft and big and they move really well. It is a creamy blonde color, not too bright, just really pretty and natural-looking. The length hits right at the chin and it is a very classic shape that works for almost everyone. So polished but not stiff at all.
Warm Honey Feathered Flip Bob

The movement on this one is incredible. Those layers are so light and feathery and they just sweep back and out in this really lovely way. The color starts a little darker at the root and goes into this sandy warm honey blonde toward the ends. It is a great pick if you want a bob that does not just sit flat. I love how airy the whole thing feels.
Rich Chestnut Sleek Chin-Length Bob

Clean and classic, that is what this is. The color is this deep rich chestnut brown that has a lot of natural depth to it. It is not flat at all, there is dimension in there even though it looks simple. The cut lands right at the chin and the ends curve under just a little bit. Very polished, very easy, and it suits straight and slightly wavy hair really well.
Salt-and-Pepper Choppy Pixie

Natural grey hair can look so so good and this is proof. The mix of dark grey and silver is genuinely beautiful and the choppy texture on top gives it so much personality. It is short on the sides and kind of tousled on top and the whole thing just looks effortlessly cool. If you are embracing your natural grey, please consider a cut like this one. It makes the color look intentional and chic.
Sandy Blonde Tousled Wavy Bob

This is the kind of hair that looks like you did not try too hard, in the best way. The sandy blonde color has some lighter pieces mixed in and the waves are loose and a little undone. It sits just past the chin so there is a nice amount of length for movement. I love a style that feels relaxed and real and this one totally delivers that.
Pure White Curly Pixie

White hair with tight curls is just so stunning and I will stand by that forever. The coils on top have so much personality and they fill out the shape of the cut really well. It is a very short pixie but the curls make it feel full and fun rather than stark. This is a low maintenance style that looks really high impact and I think that is a great trade. Very cool.
Silver-Ash Feathery Layered Pixie

This one is softer than a lot of pixies I see and I think that is what makes it special. The color is a pretty ash silver with some lighter pieces and it is very pretty together. The layers are wispy and feathered rather than sharp, and there is a gentle side sweep that softens the whole thing. For fine hair this kind of cut is really ideal because it lifts and adds volume without any extra product weight.
Sleek Salt-and-Pepper Pixie with Deep Side Part

That deep side part is everything in this look. It takes what could be a very simple short cut and makes it feel really elegant and polished. The salt-and-pepper blend is so nicely done, it leans more silver on top and the overall finish is really smooth and clean. No flyaways, no frizz, just a really sharp and put-together style. Great for someone who wants something very low effort that still looks amazing every single day.
Natural Salt-and-Pepper Sleek Chin-Length Bob

The color here is doing a lot of the work and I love that. You can see the contrast between the darker strands and the silver ones and it creates this really natural, beautiful dimension. The cut itself is straight and clean at the chin, very modern and unfussy. Nothing about this look is trying too hard and somehow that makes it even better. Just genuinely beautiful hair.
Silver-Grey Edgy Spiky Pixie

Okay this one is bold and I am here for it. The silver-grey color is gorgeous on its own but then the pieced-out spiky texture on top takes the whole thing to another level. It is edgy and cool without being costumey at all. For fine hair this is a really smart cut because all that texture makes it look way thicker and more voluminous than it actually is. Love this one a lot.
Icy Blonde Sleek A-Line Bob

Sharp and chic, two of my favorite words for a haircut. This is an A-line bob so it is shorter in the back and angles longer toward the face, and the surface is completely smooth. The color is a cool icy blonde, almost platinum, and it is a really striking combination with the clean lines of the cut. Straight hair is going to look best in this one. Very modern, very sleek.
Salt-and-Pepper Romantic Curly Bob

I think this might be my favorite one in the whole post. The curls are loose and soft and full, and the salt-and-pepper color has this incredible natural depth that no dye job could ever replicate. It falls to the chin in this really full, rounded shape that is so flattering. If your hair has natural wave or curl and you are going grey, please just let both things happen at once because this is what you get.
Ash Taupe Choppy Tousled Bob

This color is really interesting, kind of smoky and cool-toned with little lighter pieces running through it. The cut is choppy and the ends are wispy and a little undone, which gives the whole thing a relaxed and modern feel. For thicker hair this is such a good choice because the choppy layers take out a lot of the weight without losing the length. Very wearable, very cool-girl energy.
Pure White Mirror-Sleek Blunt Bob

This one stopped me in my tracks when I first looked at it. The white color is so luminous and striking and the blunt cut with a center part is just absolutely flawless. Every single strand is perfectly smooth and the shape is really architectural and beautiful. It takes some confidence to wear a center-parted blunt bob and this look shows exactly why that confidence pays off. Straight fine-to-medium hair is going to shine in this style.
Silver-Blonde Short Stacked Bob

This is such a clever cut for fine hair and I recommend it a lot in the salon. The stacking at the back builds up this really full rounded shape that adds volume in all the right places. The color is a soft silver-blonde, very pretty and light. On top it is smooth and slightly swept over so it stays polished rather than poofy. It grows out really gracefully too which is always a bonus.
Ash Platinum Graduated A-Line Bob

The graduation in this bob is really well done. It is stacked and close at the back then angles out longer toward the face, and that shape creates so much dimension and structure. The color is an ash platinum that is warm enough to not look harsh at all. It is a cut that does a lot of work for you once it is styled, you do not have to fuss with it much. Really polished from every single angle.
Dark Blonde to Bright Blonde Feathered Layered Lob

So much volume in this cut, it is almost unreal. The color moves from a deeper neutral blonde at the root into bright face-framing pieces and it catches the light really well. The layers are feathered and the ends flip out just slightly which creates this big, full, glamorous shape. Thick or medium hair is going to love this style. It is the kind of cut that looks like a lot of effort but is actually pretty easy to maintain.
Deep Burgundy Cherry Red Tousled Pixie

This color. Wow. It is a deep rich burgundy with these cherry red tones that just glow in the light and it is so so good. The pixie underneath it is tousled and layered with a lot of texture on top and it gives the whole thing so much personality. Short on the sides, airy on top, and that color just ties everything together. This is for the woman who is done playing it safe and wants to have some fun, good for her honestly.
Warm Chestnut Layered Bob with Side Sweep

This bob is the kind where you just want to book an appointment immediately after seeing it. The color is a warm chestnut brown with some soft caramel highlights mixed in and it is really pretty and dimensional. The cut is chin-length with layers that have a side sweep and the ends flip out just a little which adds so much lightness. It moves really well and the warmth of the color is especially beautiful on medium and olive skin tones.
